2018 THEMES

For the official festival programme, there are 4 universal themes, one for every night (5-8th January 2018), creating a powerful narrative arc to spark dialogue and inspire incredible light installations.

#1: ANCIENTS RISING

On Friday 5th January, the festival opens with 'Ancients Rising', featuring iconic goddesses, mythological queens, historical heroines. This is a special opportunity to illuminate ancient historical monuments.

#2 EVERY WOMAN

This democratic theme is a celebration of all women, side-by-side, from the voiceless to the legendary, with a special focus on the centenary of the suffrage movement and the plight of today’s migrant women.

#3 WORLD OF EQUALS

A showcase of egalitarian personal and professional partnerships throughout history and today. Herstory discovered that in nearly every remarkable woman’s biography there is one man who saw her as an equal. Equality is human nature! This theme includes same-sex partnerships too.

#4 VOICES OF THE FUTURE

On the first day of the new school term, we will give the stage to the young generation, to tell lost stories and rewrite the future, sharing their vision for an egalitarian global culture. Schools workshops will be circulated nationwide in November.
