ILLUMINATE AT HOME
How YOU CAN Get Involved
Here are some simple ideas on how you can create your own illuminations to celebrate the women and girls that you love. Whether you are a family, a group of friends or community organisation, everyone can get involved. Every home is full of wonderful family photographs.
1. Put a photograph of a woman you love in the window and place a candle in front to illuminate her image. Share on social media with #IlluminateHerstory to join the festival worldwide.
2.Light up your phone with a picture of a woman you love and get a friend to take a photograph to share on social media #IlluminateHerstory.
3. If you have a business premises, illuminate your building in orange or purple floodlights in support of women. Orange and purple are the colour themes for this new light festival, symbolising the feminine themes of creativity, warmth, optimism and joy. 4. Organise an Illuminate Herstory gathering in your home or community centre over the weekend of 5th - 8th January. It’s so simple - all you need is a projector and collection of photos. And there are projectors in every school, pub and boardroom in the country! Invite your friends and family to join you for an evening of celebration and storytelling. Each guest brings a photograph of a woman they want to celebrate, sharing herstory as her photograph illuminates on the wall. You can programme storytellers, performers and herstorians or keep it simple and host an intimate gathering of friends and family.Share on social media with #IlluminateHerstory to join the festival worldwide.
